FAQs

What is uzeem?

uzeem is a web-based conservatory and online exhibition that archives, preserves, curates, and showcases a variety of personal and public-domain items related to specific events and pop culture topics. Anyone who wishes to contribute to history as a whole can also curate uzeem by bringing in third party items, or collaborate by sharing the stories, legacy and sentimental values behind their own items.

uzeem is made of zeems—“rooms” inside “galleries.” Members can add items to existing zeems or to new ones that they create and organize them by displays (videos, print, photos, memorabilia, art). Think Youtube, Pinterest, Wikipedia and Instagram, all in one. It’s a place for collectors to share their passion, for showcasing art inspired by facts and events, for brands to document their contribution to culture over the years, for celebrities to tell us about their journeys, and for fans to make their appreciation known by sharing the personal stories that become part of their idols’ history.

What uzeem is not?

Uzeem doesn’t welcome media items just because they are trendy, funny, controversial. uzeem curates items that are somehow part of an event or pop culture topic and that holds historical value. They tell a story and are placed in a context that makes senses, so the visitor have the feeling that they belong there. Our goal is to create timelines of a variety of events that we can all refer to, now and years from now, learning about the pieces that contributed to the whole.

What distinguishes uzeem from other social networks?

It is in the collaboration and curation that enable us to archive our collective history, through the stories behind each one of us, that lays our differential. Our approach is to protect this history for the long term. Too often, current information and often times important trendy topics get lost, are forgotten and, in many instances, become untraceable.

Debates or personal views about the content found in our zeems should be taken to other social media outlets that embrace opinions and discussions. Uzeem is the place for factual information and real events, it’s not open for discussions.

Who can contribute to uzeem?

Any individual who has a personal item they would like to showcase or a public-domain item they find can add these to an event/topic timeline.

What is a zeem?

A zeem is a “room” inside a topic-specific “gallery” that showcases historical events and the items, uploaded by members or uzeem curators, related to them.

What is a uzeem gallery?

A uzeem gallery is a topic-specific “space” unified by zeems.

What is a zeem aisle?

Aisles are placeholders for the years that mark events and topics in the zeem timeline.

What is a aisle label?

Members are most likely to create aisles when they know the year of the event that they intend to place their items under. As we review items submissions our curators may choose to create aisle labels to make selection easier for other members also adding items to the zeem, and to help visitors identify the events in the timeline.

What is a zeem display?

zeem displays are the “shelves” where uzeem’s items are showcased. They may include: video, print, audio, and photos.

What is a zeem collection?

zeem collections are groups of displays that are related by similar content.

How are items indexed on uzeem?

uzeem indexes its own items and the ones received from members based upon each item’s place on the zeem aisles (timeline). The goal is to document items in the most accurate fashion possible, as they will become learning tools about specific events that are part of the world's history.

Why is the story behind an item so important?

uzeem’s proposition is to create a platform where personal stories that are part of our history can be told. We want to offer visitors a delightful and intimate discovery and the opportunity to be transported to the origins of each item and the legacy it leaves behind. Only the people who held it, witnessed it, received it, inherited it, cherished it, or created it can do that, and their detailed accounts can reveal the human element that brings us closer to a sense of unity as a society.

What types of items can a member showcase?

Old, new, antiques and authentic originals, replicas, and restored items can be showcased in zeems.

Do members have to pay to create a zeem?

No. It’s free for anyone to either add to a zeem or to create a new zeem.

How many items are necessary to create a zeem?

When you create a zeem, you will likely have at least one item to showcase. However, you can choose not to add items right away but rather to come back and do it from your dashboard at a later time.

Can member delete zeems?

Once the zeem is created and approved, it becomes “open” to visitors and cannot be deleted by its creator (or anyone other than uzeem curators).

How many items can the member add to the zeem they create?

There is no maximum number of items that members can add to a zeem. We encourage and welcome the addition of as many items as possible.

Does the member own the zeem that they create?

All zeems and items go through a quality assurance process, and, when approved, they become part of uzeem. Although members don't own the zeem, they can show interest in becoming its curator and may gain certain privileges and flexibility on how to maintain it.

Can members edit their own items?

Yes, and we encourage them to do so on a regular basis. Once the item is indexed on uzeem, it becomes public domain and attracts visitors from around the world who are interested in learning more about it. Keeping the details updated—especially its current location and the day that it transfers to new hands, in the case that it has been sold or traded—is essential to track this piece of history.

At a later stage when a member sells or trades items through our gateway, they will have the opportunity to send an email with a link to the buyer, who can also join uzeem as a member, claim ownership, and update the information, including its new location.

Can members delete their own items?

Although we encourage that items be kept in the zeem as part of history, members are free to delete them at any time.

What if I don’t know the information needed?

Certain information is required before the item can become part of a zeem. If the member is not certain of the item date, they can verify it and edit it later via their account dashboard. When a member does not indicate the zeem aisle (the date on a timeline) where the item should be placed, the item is placed under the “Lost in History” aisle until a visitor indicates knowledge of the correct date and submits it as a suggestion, to be approved and included at our team’s discretion.

How does uzeem keep items information updated?

Our goal is to provide visitors with the most current information about historical events and the members’ items that are related to them.

Part of a curator’s job is to track changes and ensure accuracy. We also count on visitors to help maintain items’ details. Each item card has links that facilitate the reporting of invalid links, incorrect ownership claims, and verified information. It is also possible to flag items suspected of law infringement.

Can members sell the items they add to zeems?

Sales of zeem items by members to other members (P2P) is not available at the moment.

What is Zeemmail

We envision Zeemmail as a function that will let members plus connect with each other within our platform. This will enable collectors to share their passions directly with other members. Zeemmail will also serve as a way to communicate when we implement our P2P capabilities.

What is the uzeem store?

The uzeem store is where dealers sell products related to zeems.

What is a Member Plus?

Members contribute to zeems for free. Members + have the opportunity to promote their content as they add items to enrich ours. As an alternative to Sponsors and Dealers accounts, that pay advertising rates for banners, this type of account give bloggers and freelance writers the chance to also make themselves known on a much smaller budget. There is no limit to the number of items that can be added.

What is VIP Visitor?

Visitors come to uzeem to explore zeems for free and without the need to create an account. VIP Visitors have access to a dashboard from where they can set up preferences to receive invitations when new galleries and zeems open and to get exclusive access to future exhibits. They can also build their own collections for direct access to their favorite items.

What is a uzeem dealer?

Dealers are businesses that register to sell products in the zeem store. Create a dealer account

Can dealers add items to zeems?

We encourage everyone and anyone to add products of historical value to zeems. Dealers are welcome to register as members and index their products as part of history before selling them at the store. Create a member account

What is a sponsor?

Sponsorship is a type of paid advertising, in a banner format that can go beyond the commercial element. It also contributes to content and a richer visitor experience, offering the opportunity for a further look into the event/topic of that specific zeem. Banners link directly to the Sponsor’s landing page, which will ideally represent as close as an extension of the zeem as possible. Create a sponsor account

What is a curator?

We are not open for external curators at this time, but feel free to let us know that you are interested and we will inform you when this type of collaboration becomes available.

uzeem will be soon inviting members to become curators. Anyone will be able to apply to become a zeem curator. Curators must demonstrate above-average knowledge and a high level of interest about a subject and must be willing to contribute to history in a bigger way. Curators are responsible for keeping the zeem accurate, current, and interesting, bringing new items, verifying information that is uploaded, and attracting traffic to the gallery.

Credibility is built by visitors’ evaluations and by our own curators’ measurement of a curator’s contribution to the zeem. Achieving a certain status provides a curator with the opportunity to earn a percentage of store sales generated from that zeem.

What will be the benefits of being a curator?

  • Getting recognized as an expert
  • Helping promote people’s stories
  • Giving a special touch to how history is documented
  • Profiting from the dedication to legacy

What is the uzeem library?

At a later stage, uzeem will build a library with detailed information related to zeem aisles. The e-library will link to historical documents and will later catalogue documents by our own contributors.
